Top 10 IC Design Companies
In this article, we will briefly discuss what IC design is and share the latest Top 10 IC design companies.
What is IC Design
IC design (Integrated Circuit Design) is the process of integrating multiple components and functional modules on a chip based on semiconductor technology, according to certain circuit design rules and principles, and effectively connecting and interconnecting them. Designers need to use computer-aided design tools for circuit design, simulation, layout confirmation, and validation, considering factors such as time, cost, performance, area, power consumption, and reliability, balancing and optimizing them, and ultimately adopting the best design methods and strategies to meet design requirements and complete the design.
Typically, IC design involves multiple subfields, including digital circuit logic design, analog circuit design, RF integrated circuit design, power management, and processor design.
In recent years, the field of integrated circuit design has witnessed remarkable advancements, driven by the relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence. With the increasing demand for more powerful, energy-efficient, and compact electronic devices, the role of IC design companies has become pivotal in shaping the landscape of modern technology.

NVIDIA: Buoyed by the artificial intelligence wave, NVIDIA has surged to the top in both revenue and market share. Its revenue soared to $55.268 billion in 2023, marking a staggering 105% increase that leaves other companies far behind. The AI GPU H100 has been selling exceptionally well. Currently, NVIDIA dominates over 80% of the AI accelerator chip market. Furthermore, the release of the H200 in 2024, alongside the next generation of B100/B200/GB200, is expected to further drive NVIDIA's revenue growth.
Qualcomm: Affected by the downturn in the smartphone market, Qualcomm's revenue for 2023 decreased to $30.913 billion, down 16% year-on-year.
Broadcom: Broadcom's strategic focus on artificial intelligence server-related products has yielded significant gains. Solutions based on AI chips accounted for nearly 15% of revenue, driving a 7% year-on-year increase to $28.445 billion in 2023.
AMD: AMD experienced a decline in revenue due to decreased demand in the PC market and inventory reduction efforts. Its revenue decreased by 4% to $22.68 billion in 2023, primarily relying on contributions from the data center and embedded businesses.
MediaTek: MediaTek was significantly impacted by the turbulence in the smartphone market, with its revenue plummeting by 25% to $13.888 billion in 2023.
Realtek: Realtek slipped to the eighth position, with its revenue decreasing by 19% to $3.053 billion in 2023, primarily influenced by significant declines in PC market shipments and other factors.
Looking ahead to 2024, TrendForce forecasts that in addition to IC inventory having returned to healthy levels, the ongoing AI boom will drive major cloud service providers (CSPs) to continue expanding their construction of Large Language Models (LLMs). Meanwhile, AI-related applications will penetrate personal devices, paving the way for products such as AI smartphones and AI PCs. As a result, the global IC design industry is expected to see continued growth in revenue in 2024.
